Project: Workspace - Part 2

The room feels as chaotic as my mind does sometimes.

In my quest to create a beautiful workspace, it is important to admit that the room in question is currently more akin to a junk drawer than a workspace. I am limited in the amount of changes I can make since the house is a rental. However, I will do all I can to get this room into a respectable workspace. I have a long way to go, and I have a photo to show it. Let me take you on a brief (very brief, the room is 10ft x 10ft) tour.

The mess from the door.

Looking at the above picture, there are papers and binders on the floor, a blanket covering a Christmas gift, all kinds of junk on my desk, terrible wall art mixed with wall art I like, and cheap shelves gathered from all around. What is visible, but not apparent is how many of my projects and hobbies are all strewn about. In the picture, I have origami projects, several books, a sewing machine still in its box, and just out of the picture, a stack of yarn, with partly finished crochet projects. The room feels as chaotic as my mind does sometimes. This is a major motivation to change this room.

I need all of the things I love to do to be organized in a logical manner, with definite goals to work towards. I have pursued these hobbies and interests haphazardly my whole life, and I feel the lack of direction and purpose in my free time is leading to more frustration than creativity.

Looking at this mess and showing the photo here has already motivated me to pick up a few things. Christmas gifts are wrapped, and the giant blanket is put away in the closet. Right now, I'm going to quit writing and start cleaning. In the next post on this project, I'll show my plan for the layout of my workspace. I'll also post about Project: Woodworking for 2022, which ties into this Project.
